Grandma’s Marathon has announced its 2010 Hall of Fame class. The nonprofit organization has selected the following into its hall:
*Kevin Pates
Duluth News Tribune sports writer and racecourse radio commentator
*John Leppi (Deceased) One of the marathon’s founding fathers and former water station captain
*477th Medical Company
Providing on-course First Aid since 1980
*Bill and Nancy Olsen
Mile 5 aid station captains since 1985
*Chuck and Sally Hegg
Mile 5 aid station captains since 1985
“We are pleased to recognize the contributions of these individuals and groups, who are all very deserving of a place in our hall of fame. The success and development of our organization is based on dedicated people like these,” said Scott Keenan, executive director of Grandma’s Marathon.
The 2010 Hall of Fame inductees will receive their awards at the June 19 post-race award ceremony which begins at 4 p.m. at the Duluth Entertainment Convention Center (DECC).
Grandma’s Marathon weekend kicks off with the SMDC Health System Health and Fitness Expo which begins at 5 p.m. June 17 and continues all day on Friday, June 18. Other Friday events include the Michelina’s All-You-Can-Eat Spaghetti Dinner, the Whipper Snapper Races for Kids, guest speaking presentations, the William A. Irvin 5K and live entertainment.

Record 11,200 runners to participate in October 3 Event
(Minneapolis, MN) – Registration for the 2010 Medtronic Twin Cities Marathon closed this past weekend when the event reached its 11,200 runner capacity. Participants from all 50 states and 14 countries will compose the marathon’s largest field ever.
The 29th annual event, to be run on October 3, reached its capacity for the 23rd consecutive year.
“This great fall tradition celebrates the aspirations of the every day marathoner, as well as the professional athletes,” Twin Cities In Motion executive director Virginia Brophy Achman said. “The community continues to support our events and we thank all of our participants for choosing to run their fall race with us.”
Those still wishing to take part in the race can reserve their spot at the start line October 3 through the Twin Cities In Motion Community Partners Fundraiser Entry Program benefiting the organization’s youth fitness partners, including Bolder Options, Migizi Communications and the YWCA of Minneapolis. The fundraiser offers 150 additional online marathon entries with donations used to support these partners. Interested participants can go online to mtcmarathon.org to take part in the Fundraiser Entry Program. For the price of registration, plus a $100 tax-deductible donation, the first 150 entries received will gain entry into the 29th running of The Most Beautiful Urban Marathon in America®.
Twin Cities In Motion focuses its fundraising efforts on kids’ fitness and wellness through its youth fitness partners. The funds raised through the Fundraiser Entry Program help these organizations focus on their core missions that benefit youth and to promote healthy lifestyles while reducing the alarming increase in childhood obesity in the Twin Cities. |

Grandma’s Marathon Registration to Close June 1
(Duluth, Minn.) Registration for the 34th running of Grandma’s Marathon will remain open through Tuesday, June 1, race officials announced today.
As of today, the nation’s 13th largest marathon has more than 7,100 in the field for the June 19 event. Runners can sign up for the annual Two Harbors-to-Duluth race by visiting www.GrandmasMarathon.com. The 2010 entry fee is $85.
Last year’s champions, Chris Raabe and Mary Akor, both are expected to return to defend their titles from a year ago. Raabe’s 2009 men’s victory was the first for an American since 1995, while Akor became just the second three-time women’s winner in race history. |

(Duluth, Minn.) – The 2012 and 2013 USA Half Marathon Championships have been awarded to Duluth, Minn., USA Track & Field and Grandma’s Marathon-Duluth, Inc., announced today.
“We are excited to have Duluth play host to our USA Half Marathon Championships in 2012 and 2013," said USATF CEO Doug Logan. “We look forward to working with Grandma’s Marathon to deliver what promises to be two great events in the city that will highlight the talents of our best runners.”
The men’s and women’s national half-marathon title races will be run in conjunction with the Garry Bjorklund Half Marathon on June 16, 2012 and June 22, 2013. |

Get Fit Minnesota; Stillwater Marathon announces physical fitness initiative
for all ages and abilities
Stillwater, MN, April 20, 2010 - The Stillwater Marathon Committee announced
today a roster of community-oriented races to be held Saturday, May 29, 2010
over Stillwater Marathon weekend. This new event, titled "Get Fit Minnesota"
is in partnership with District 834 elementary schools and open to all
students and the general public.
